Economic development is often talked about, but not always understood. Many people think it’s only about recruiting new businesses or large projects. In reality, much of the work happens quietly and close to home.

At Hancock County Economic Development (HCEDC), our role is to support the long-term success of local businesses and communities. That work looks different every day.

Some days, it means helping an existing business explore expansion options or navigate available funding. Other days, it’s connecting employers to workforce resources, partnering on childcare solutions, or working with community leaders to address housing and infrastructure needs. Often, it’s simply answering questions and helping people understand where to start.

Economic development is about removing barriers — making it easier for businesses to operate, grow, and stay in Hancock County. It’s also about supporting quality of life so families and workers can live and work here long-term.

Projects like childcare development, workforce initiatives, and community partnerships don’t happen overnight. They require collaboration, planning, and persistence. HCEDC works behind the scenes to bring partners together, align resources, and move those efforts forward.

HCEDC in Action is a way for us to share that work more openly — not to promote ourselves, but to help our communities better understand what economic development looks like and why it matters.

If you’re a business owner, community leader, or resident with questions or ideas, we encourage you to reach out. Supporting Hancock County’s future starts with conversation.
