Flying U.S. flag upside down is disrespectful

To the editor:

My late husband, Bruce Piper, served in the U.S. Army in World War II in the Pacific. One statement he made, “I don’t know how I was so lucky to come home alive. I saw the man in front of me die. I saw the man behind me die.”

How very sad and distraught he would be to see our United States of America flag be flown upside down! This is so disrespectful to all who serve, have served, and put their lives on the line or were injured or gave their lives for our beloved country.

It is so sad that anyone in our fine town of Garner would do this!

Sincerely, Louise Piper
