Deborah Kerns

Deborah Sue Kerns, age 73, of Britt and later, Adel, Iowa, passed away Monday, September 29, 2025 at CHI Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa with Pat and Linda near her side. Deb lived at CountryHouse Memory Care in Council Bluffs, Iowa for the past three years.

Deborah was the daughter of Merle (Moe) and Betty Kerns of Britt. She was born in Mason City on April 5, 1952. She graduated from Britt High School in 1970 and Iowa State University in 1975.

Deb was an art teacher at Dallas Center High School, a jewelry manager at Brandeis in Lincoln, Nebraska, and a paralegal for Principal Financial Group in Des Moines.
    
Deb enjoyed spending time with her friends and her dog, quilting, traveling, gardening, cooking, and demonstrating how to make greeting cards.

Those left to cherish memories of Deb are her sisters: Pam Kerns (Rocky Espinosa) of Garner, Pat (Bill) Hopes of Council Bluffs, Linda Kerns of Omaha, and Becky (Mike) May of Britt, nieces and nephews: Nick, Ivy, and Paige May and Clay, Alex, and Jake Hopes, along with other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and nephew, Lucas James May. 

The family kindly suggests that memorial contributions be made in Debbie’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date in Evergreen cemetery, Britt, Iowa.
