Letter to the Editor:

At 17 years old, my husband enlisted in the army in 1972. There he took an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, to bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution. He never expected that starting in August of 2021 he would again be defending the Constitution of the United States against a private company. A company that is not a utility providing gas, water, oil or electricity. A company that is not building a road.
Summit Carbon Solutions, a private company, wants take our land through eminent domain to
make billions of dollars. They want to tear up our land to install a pipeline that will be carrying a hazardous waste product to an unknown destination. He has spent many hours attending meetings, writing emails to legislators and hiring an excellent attorney, Brian Jorde.
In August of 2025 we received a letter from Summit announcing a new senior leadership team that would be focused on partnership and respect. It stated they are committed to doing things right. In September, we received another letter from Summit reaffirming their commitment to respect. That letter also included an invitation. It invited us to a meeting they were hosting.
That meeting will be held on Veterans Day. A company that is trampling our constitutional property rights wants us to drive to another county to attend their meeting on Veterans Day. Instead of spending Veterans Day attending events that honor veterans, we are asked to spend time with the very people who want to seize our land through eminent domain since we are refusing to sign an extremely one-sided easement agreement.
