Alvin "Doug" Johnson

Alvin “Doug” Johnson, 71, of Kanawha, passed away Monday, May 12, 2025 at his home in Kanawha.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at Kanawha United Methodist Church, 402 North Main Street in Kanawha. Burial was in the Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha.
Ewing Funeral Home, Kanawha, was in charge of the arrangements.
Alvin Douglas Johnson, the son of Alvin “Babe” and Janice (Hall) Johnson, was born in Britt, Iowa on December 3, 1953. Doug grew up in Kanawha and graduated from Kanawha High School with the class of 1972.
After high school, Doug worked at Winnebago Industries. He then owned and operated his own semi, hauling for John VanHove before driving 37 years for Decker Truck Line.
When he wasn’t on the road, Doug enjoyed taking care of his yard and working on projects around the house. He was known for making “executive decisions” and had a sharp sense of humor. He was a loyal Iowa Hawkeye fan and liked to relax watching old westerns. Above all, Doug loved keeping in touch with his family. Even while on the road, he somehow always knew what was going on back home in Kanawha—often before anyone else.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years Linda Johnson of Kanawha; two step-sons Tim Kenyon of Colorado Springs and Brian Kenyon of Fort Dodge; step-grandchildren Keeley, Keaton, and Kolton; siblings Sue (Doyce) Hiscocks of Clear Lake, Randy Johnson of Des Moines, Gilbert Johnson (Tish Collins) of Eldora, Mike (Bonnie) Johnson of Kanawha; step-father Harold Philp of Keokuk; sister-in-law Nora Finney; brother-in-law Ron (Vicky) Finney; along with many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, and brother Gary Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family and can be designated for Ahlzeimers or Luekemia research.
